About this event
The Frank Soo Foundation is delighted to present a series of talks from professionals working inside the Beautiful Game. All our guest speakers are of ESEA (East and South East Asian) background and work within various areas in the football industry.
In our first online talk we are honoured to have Lawrence Lok, Regional Coach Development Officer at the FA. Lawrence has been coaching in football for 18 years. He is a UEFA A licence holder and has previously coached in the Bradford City academy and in the USA developing community programmes for the MLS. He joined the FA in 2013 and has held various roles during that time developing grassroots football. In his current role Lawrence’s focus is on diversity and inclusion in grassroots football, with the aim to get more Black and Asian coaches into the game.
In this online talk Lawrence will cover :
his career in football coaching
the importance of grassroots football within society
the challenges people of ESEA descent face in the football world
Most importantly Lawrence will help us answer, ‘How do we produce the next Frank Soo?’
Frank Soo is in many ways the forgotten man of twentieth-century football. He was the first non white and only person from a Chinese or Asian background to play for England. He played for big clubs such as Stoke City, Leicester City, Luton Town and also went on to play for the RAF during WW2. During his time at Stoke, he captained the great Stanley Matthews.
